“All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players”

 WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

At NOS we believe that the Arts (Drama, Music, Dance, Art) play a central role in the development of students’ personalities and self-confidence. They help children thrive psychologically, mentally, emotionally, as well as physically.

Through Drama classes and Drama Teams, we seek to develop students’ love and appreciation for the art of acting and theatre culture and to introduce them to various Drama schools and techniques. Our Students learn at the hands of veteran theatre directors, actors and Drama teachers.

Drama at NOS has multiple aims:

  • Educational Drama: To help students overcome any fears, insecurities or negative behavior they may demonstrate and to motivate them to perform better not just on stage, but at school and in their daily life. Educational Drama also aims to help students develop their sense of patriotism and nationalism and their overall self-confidence by learning to overcome stage fright; it also seeks to teach them how to express their opinions freely and eloquently, whether verbally or through body language.

  • Theatre Culture & Drama Appreciation: To introduce students to theatre etiquette and tradition, different types of theatre spaces and different genres of plays, and to help them develop theatrical taste and a love and appreciation for the Art of Drama and Acting, in addition to teaching them how to evaluate and critique performance and share their opinion of their peers’ performances in Drama class or play in a manner of constructive, yet considerate, criticism.

  • Acting Basics: To introduce students to different “schools of Drama”, and acting techniques and to train them in the basics of acting and dramatic performance in order to help enable them to stand comfortably and speak confidently in front of an audience, whether to give a presentation in class, or a speech at a conference, or a simple performance in a play. Also, to encourage students’ imagination and nurture their creativity and train them on improvisation and how to think of creating simple scripts and sketches.

Drama Classes:

NOS students take Drama classes as part of their school subjects from Grades (1-8).

Drama Teams:

Students who find that they have a further interest in acting or a passion for performing, or who are discovered by their teachers for being talented actors, are encouraged to pursue further training in more advanced acting skills by joining the NOS Drama Teams.

The NOS Drama Teams are divided as follows:

  • Grades (4-5) Drama Team
  • Grades (6-8) Drama Team
  • Grades (9-12) Drama Team

Members of our school Drama teams contribute to many school events and celebrations by performing short sketches. NOS also produces full plays and musicals, some adapted from world classics, others original scripts written by our Drama teachers, and sometimes, even our creative students.

Participation & Membership in NOS Drama Club Teams

The School sends out announcements and registration forms at the beginning of each school year via NOS e-mail to all Students and Parents, with detailed information about school teams and clubs tryout/audition dates, practice days and times, location, supervisors/coaches and the registration process. Registration is on a first come, first served basis or by tryout/audition, depending on space availability and any skill level required.

We encourage all our students to take part in clubs and to try out for school teams that match their interests.
