Lower Primary Stage (Grades 1-3)

 

This Stage focuses on helping children:

  1. Develop their social-emotional intelligence, as well as their ability to practise self-control, express their feelings in a positive manner, communicate with others and build friendships.
  2. Acquire good healthy, nutritional, environmental and study habits.
  3. Develop their love of knowledge and learning, reflection skills, critical thinking and creativity and discover their potentials and interests.
  4. Learn the basics of reading, writing, mathematics and science.
  5. Learn to respect order and preserve public property.
  6. Develop their love and sense of belonging to homeland and humanity.

 

Teaching in Grades (1-3) is based on Homeroom Teachers who teach the core subjects, while the remaining subjects are taught by specialised subject teachers. Students learn the following subjects according to the academic programme they choose:

 

The National Programme

  • Subjects taught by Homeroom Teachers: Arabic Language, Mathematics in Arabic, Science in Arabic and Social Studies in Arabic.
  • Subjects taught by Subject Teachers: English Language, Science in English, French, Christian and Islamic Religious Studies, Computer, Physical Education (P.E.), Art, Music, Drama and Global Perspectives.

International Programme -Cambridge Primary (CP)

  • Subjects taught by Homeroom Teachers: English Language, Mathematics in English, Science in English, Social Studies in English and Global Perspectives.
  • Subjects taught by Subject Teachers: Arabic Language, Social Studies in Arabic, French Language, Christian and Islamic Religious Studies in Arabic, Computer, Physical Education, Art, Music and Drama.

There are 8 classes a day; each class is 40 minutes. Students have a 30-minute break after the 3rd period and a second, shorter, 20-minute break after the 6th period.

Free Dress-Free Play Days:

To break the routine and give our children a chance to develop their cognitive and social skills through play, the Stage (1-3) Administration holds free play hours and free dress days on certain days during the school year where students are encouraged to bring in their favorite toys, as long as they are not electronic, to share and play with their friends.
